Even Donald Trump is growing tired of Marjorie Taylor Greene's antics in the House of Representatives. On Wednesday, Trump posted on Truth Social that Greene's attempt to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson was risking "CHAOS" in the chamber and making Republicans look bad. While Trump praised Greene's "Spirit" and "Fight," he emphasized that now is not the time for division within the Republican party.
Trump's comments came after Greene's motion to vacate the Speaker's chair was overwhelmingly tabled by a margin of 359 to 43. Only 10 Republicans, including hard-right Representatives Eli Crane and Warren Davidson, joined Greene in her effort. The majority of Democrats, who have been critical of Johnson's leadership, actually voted to save his job after he championed a significant aid package for Ukraine last month.
House Democratic leaders stated that they would vote to table Greene's motion, citing the need to "turn the page" on Republican obstruction and focus on national security work. Trump seemed to agree, writing that while he may have issues with Johnson's leadership, now is not the time to show "DISUNITY" and risk being portrayed as "CHAOS."
Trump emphasized that Republicans need to present a united front in order to win big in the upcoming elections. He expressed confidence in Johnson, calling him a "good man" who is "trying very hard." Trump also acknowledged that there are issues that need to be addressed, but emphasized that they will be resolved "together."
Overall, Trump's comments suggest that even he is growing weary of Greene's divisive tactics and is urging Republicans to focus on presenting a united front in order to achieve their goals. With the 2024 elections fast approaching, Trump and other Republican leaders are likely to continue emphasizing the importance of party unity in order to succeed.
