House Democrats will block an effort to oust Speaker Mike Johnson

House Democrats have announced that they will block an effort to oust Speaker Mike Johnson from his position, amid threats from Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and other hardliners. This move comes after Greene suggested she would move forward with a motion to vacate Johnson, in order to put members on the record.
In a statement, House Democratic leadership said, "At this moment, upon completion of our national security work, the time has come to turn the page on this chapter of Pro-Putin Republican obstruction. We will vote to table Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's Motion to Vacate the Chair. If she invokes the motion, it will not succeed."
Greene has been pushing for Johnson's removal, and has threatened to put forward a motion to vacate the chair. She has stated that she wants to put members on the record, and has accused Johnson of being too soft on Democrats.
However, Johnson has defended his position, saying that he needs Democratic support to remain in his job and that he did not request assistance from the other side of the aisle. He has also stated that his focus is on getting the job done and passing legislation.
Despite this, Greene and other hardliners have continued to push for Johnson's removal. Kentucky GOP Rep. Thomas Massie, who has joined Greene's effort, has said that the Democrats' promise to save Johnson will only help their effort to oust him.
The situation has caused tension within the Republican party, with some members saying that the effort to remove Johnson is "dead". However, Greene and Massie have announced that they will hold a news conference on Wednesday to discuss their effort further.
The move by House Democrats to block the effort to oust Johnson is seen as a strategic move to prevent further division within the Republican party. It is also seen as a way to maintain stability in the House, and to prevent any further disruption to the legislative process.
Overall, the situation highlights the ongoing tensions and divisions within the Republican party, and the challenges that Speaker Johnson faces in maintaining unity and passing legislation.
