An Israeli ground invasion of Rafah would be "intolerable"

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has warned that an Israeli ground invasion of Rafah would be "intolerable" due to its devastating humanitarian consequences and destabilizing impact on the region. He made a strong appeal to both Israel and Hamas to reach a ceasefire agreement, emphasizing that this is an opportunity that cannot be missed.
However, Israel has announced that its military operations in Rafah will continue, despite Hamas accepting a ceasefire proposal. Israel claims that the terms of the proposal are still "far" from meeting its demands. The Israeli war cabinet has unanimously decided to continue with the operation to exert military pressure on Hamas.
Palestinians in Gaza celebrated the news of Hamas accepting the ceasefire proposal, while hostage families and their supporters in Tel Aviv urged Israel's leaders to accept the deal. However, Israel has reiterated its commitment to an offensive in Rafah, with the Israel Defense Forces conducting targeted strikes against Hamas targets in the area.
The situation remains dire, with over 1 million Palestinians having fled to Rafah, which is believed to be a stronghold of Hamas. The Israeli military has ordered Palestinians living in Rafah to "evacuate immediately," raising fears of an imminent assault on the city. The international community must continue to urge a ceasefire and an end to the violence to prevent further humanitarian suffering.
