One in 10 Republicans Less Likely to Vote for Trump After Guilty Verdict: Reuters/Ipsos Poll

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll has found that one in 10 Republicans are less likely to vote for Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election following his recent guilty verdict in the hush money scandal. The poll suggests that the verdict has had a significant impact on Republican voters, with many feeling that Trump's actions have damaged his reputation and made him less trustworthy.

The poll found that 12% of Republicans said they were less likely to vote for Trump after the verdict, while 22% said it had no impact on their decision. The remaining 66% of Republicans said they were still likely to vote for Trump, despite the scandal.

The findings are significant, as Trump is considered a strong contender for the Republican nomination in the 2024 election. The poll suggests that the verdict may have damaged his chances of winning over some Republican voters, particularly those who are concerned about his character and trustworthiness.

The verdict, which was delivered by a New York grand jury, found that Trump had committed multiple felonies, including campaign finance violations and conspiracy. The charges stem from a hush money payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

The poll also found that many Republicans believe that the verdict was unfair and that Trump was being targeted by political opponents. A majority of Republicans (55%) said they believed that Trump was being treated unfairly, while 31% said he was being treated fairly.

However, the poll also found that many Republicans are concerned about the impact of Trump's actions on the country. A majority of Republicans (56%) said they believed that Trump's actions had damaged his reputation and made him less trustworthy.

"The verdict is a significant blow to Trump's reputation and credibility," said Kristen Hopewell, a political analyst at Ipsos. "While he still has a strong base of support among Republicans, this verdict is likely to erode his support among moderate voters who are turned off by his behavior."
