The Shema: Israel's Ultimate Declaration

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 contains the Shema—the most important prayer in Jewish tradition. "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one." This declares God's absolute unity and uniqueness. The Shema commands us to love God with all our heart, soul, and might. This means every aspect of our being—emotions, thoughts, actions, and resources—belongs to Him. It's not a suggestion but a call to total devotion. These words should be on our hearts, taught to our children, discussed at home and on the road, and bound as symbols on our hands and foreheads. The Shema transforms faith from private belief into daily, visible practice that shapes families and communities.
