Critical issues in
the US today
Three issues stand
out from the rest
Each of the presidential candidates has been ranting
incessantly about a whole range of issues which is currently heard all over the
US and these things include the economy and job creation, terrorism and foreign
policy, healthcare, Wall Street and investment, federal deficit and budget, the
environment and global warming issues, immigration and the current gun laws.
There can be no doubt that all of these issues is certainly important and we
need to have effective solutions for all of them but to my personal opinion
those which is touching the pockets of US citizens the most severely is those
that involve employment, healthcare and the federal deficit because these are
things that have a very direct impact upon the standard of living of every
citizen in the US. Once again I am by no means insinuating that these things is
not important because we all know that they are but when it comes to the
immediate and urgent welfare of US citizens in my belief most US citizens will
agree that healthcare, employment and the federal deficit are those who has
been directly impacting the lives of millions of US citizens for the last two
decades. Of these three issues I believe healthcare to be single most important
issue facing the US today. Millions of US citizens continue to struggle with
extremely expensive healthcare costs which results in unbearable loads of
medical debt for which people no longer have a viable solution.
Simply not enough is
done
Rising health care costs and the way in which it is
impacting US citizens have been discussed for many years now and still no truly
effective and sustainable solution has been found for the prevailing problems
relating to the healthcare industry and the medical debts by which most US
citizens is burdened. Just have a look at the statistics for a moment, the 3
most profitable pharmaceutical companies is located in the US and between them
they had a combined income in 2015 of over US$37 billion. The question most US
citizen should be asking in this times just before the next US presidential
election is how much of those profits has found its way back into the pockets
of US citizens amongst whom that money has been generated in the first place.
The most profitable company has declared profits of over $16 billion in 2015
the second one as far as profitability is concerned has earned over US$12
billion while the third one has generated over US$11 billion in profits during
2015. This is a lot of money coming from companies who is doing business in a
country where millions of people are struggling in the current economic climate
where medical healthcare cost has soared and people are burden by medical debt
and they have no answer or solution for their financial situation. I think under
the circumstances those profits which has been generated by those companies is
criminal to say the least. It shows a shocking disregard for the suffering of
millions of US citizens which is utterly inexcusable.
Looking at
Switzerland
This is the country with the best medical care system in the
world but surprisingly healthcare in Switzerland cost only 50% of what an
equivalent care will cost in the US. The two major pharmaceutical companies in Switzerland
namely Novartis and Roche has only reported profits of $9 billion each but none
of the citizens of Switzerland is complaining because every one of them gets
taken care off in the best possible way and then medical care costs is not
nearly as high as what the same care would cost in the US. The question which
every US voter will have to ask themselves is what on earth is going on here? Despite
all the efforts of the affordable care act and Obama care there has only been
minimal relief for US citizens and millions is still struggling with very large
medical debts and this is even more shocking when one considers that 70% of all
bankruptcy filings is in fact because of medical debt. Therefore it is
surprising that the situation is allowed to continue were 3 US pharmaceuticalcompanies is allowed to continue to generate huge profits while millions of the
citizens of this country continues to suffer due to increasing healthcare
costs.
