Critical Issues in the US Today: Employment, Healthcare, and Federal Deficit

As the US presidential election approaches, the nation's citizens are faced with a plethora of issues that require urgent attention. While various presidential candidates have been vocal about a range of topics, including the economy, terrorism, and healthcare, I believe that employment, healthcare, and the federal deficit are the most pressing concerns that directly impact the standard of living of every American citizen.

Healthcare: The Single Most Important Issue

In my opinion, healthcare is the most critical issue facing the US today. Millions of Americans struggle with exorbitant healthcare costs, resulting in unbearable medical debt. The statistics are alarming, with 70% of all bankruptcy filings attributed to medical debt. Meanwhile, the three most profitable pharmaceutical companies in the US have generated combined profits of over $37 billion in 2015. The question on every American's mind is: how much of those profits has been reinvested in the country's healthcare system?

Switzerland: A Model for Healthcare

In contrast, Switzerland has a healthcare system that is considered the best in the world. Despite being a smaller country, Switzerland has managed to provide high-quality healthcare at a significantly lower cost than the US. The two major pharmaceutical companies in Switzerland, Novartis and Roche, have reported profits of $9 billion each. However, unlike in the US, Swiss citizens are not burdened by medical debt because everyone has access to affordable healthcare.

The Urgent Need for Change

It is imperative that the US addresses these critical issues and finds sustainable solutions to employment, healthcare, and the federal deficit. The current situation is unacceptable, with millions of Americans struggling to make ends meet due to medical debt and unaffordable healthcare costs. As voters approach the next presidential election, it is essential that they demand answers from candidates about their plans to address these pressing concerns.
