As King Charles begins to resume public duties amid his ongoing cancer treatment, Buckingham Palace is carefully managing his return, balancing his health needs with his constitutional responsibilities.

The King's current role as head of state involves various ceremonial and symbolic duties, as well as important constitutional functions:

1. Public Engagements: While the King will not undertake a full summer program of engagements, he will gradually return to public-facing work. This includes visits to institutions, hosting events, and meeting with dignitaries.

2. State Visits: One of the King's upcoming engagements includes hosting the Emperor and Empress of Japan for a state visit in June. Such visits involve ceremonial events, banquets, and official meetings.
