Mike Tyson, the former world heavyweight champion, is taking his upcoming fight with Jake Paul seriously, and has revealed that he has given up sex and marijuana as part of his training regime.
In an interview with "The Damon Elliott Show," Tyson said that he has not smoked marijuana for two and a half weeks, and has also abstained from sex for the same period. He added that he is living a disciplined life and will have to fight disciplined as well.
Tyson's regime of abstinence is likely due to the fact that marijuana is on the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation's (TDLR) banned substances list. The TDLR governs combat sports in the state, and Tyson's fight with Paul will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on July 20.
The 57-year-old Tyson has a long history with marijuana, and has been open about his use of the drug in the past. He has even started his own cannabis brand, Tyson 2.0, which sells edibles and other products. However, it seems that he is putting his use of the drug on hold for the time being in order to focus on his training.
Tyson's fight with Paul will be a professional bout, with certain waivers in place. The fight will last for eight rounds, with two minutes per round, and both boxers will wear 14-ounce gloves. The TDLR has approved the bout, and it is expected to be a highly anticipated event.
Tyson has a 50-6 career record, with 44 of his victories coming by way of knockout. He is widely considered one of the best boxers in history, and his fight with Paul will be a chance for him to prove that he still has what it takes to compete at a high level.
Paul, on the other hand, has transitioned from YouTube to professional boxing and has won nine of his 10 fights. His only defeat came against Tommy Fury, the younger half-brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, in February 2023.
The fight between Tyson and Paul is expected to be a highly entertaining event, and fans are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to see two of the biggest names in combat sports face off in the ring. With Tyson's discipline and training regime in full effect, it will be interesting to see if he can emerge victorious against the younger and hungry Paul.
