Incredible ski jump surpassing the world record don't comply with FIS guidelines

Ryōyū Kobayashi's incredible ski jump on Wednesday, surpassing the world record by nearly 40 meters, was a remarkable feat of athleticism. However, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) has declined to recognize it due to non-compliance with their competition conditions.

The 27-year-old Japanese jumper soared approximately 955 feet (291m) through the air in northern Iceland, showcasing his exceptional skills. Despite the awe-inspiring nature of Kobayashi's jumps, which included impressive distances of 256m, 259m, and 282m, they did not adhere to FIS regulations for official recognition.

According to the FIS, a ski flying competition must take place on a FIS-certified distance measuring system and a homologated ski flying hill. Additionally, there are regulations concerning equipment and material standards that must be met. Kobayashi's jumps in Iceland were not conducted under these sanctioned competition conditions.

Although Kobayashi's achievement did not meet the criteria for an official record, the FIS expressed anticipation for his participation in the upcoming FIS World Cup season, where he can compete under regulated conditions for an official world record.

Despite the setback, Kobayashi remains enthusiastic about his accomplishment, describing it as a dream come true. His determination to continue pushing boundaries and aiming for a 984 ft (300-meter) jump reflects his unwavering dedication to the sport and pursuit of excellence.
