Michael Cohen will stop criticizing Trump on social media

Michael Cohen, the former personal attorney of Donald Trump, has announced that he will refrain from discussing the former president on social media or his podcast until after his testimony in Trump's ongoing hush-money trial concludes. Cohen made this statement on X, expressing his intention to respect the judge and prosecutors involved in the case.

Known for his outspokenness about his experiences working for Trump, Cohen has authored a book, hosts a podcast, and frequently appears on cable television to discuss his time as Trump's fixer. However, given his central role in the hush-money trial, Cohen's decision to temporarily halt discussions about Trump may indicate a strategic move to avoid potentially complicating his testimony.

The trial, focused on allegations of falsifying business records to conceal hush-money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 presidential election, places Cohen at the center of attention as a key witness. Despite not being subject to a gag order like Trump, legal experts have expressed concerns about Cohen's public statements potentially undermining his credibility as a witness.

Trump himself has launched attacks against Cohen, which prosecutors argue violate the gag order imposed by Judge Juan Merchan. Merchan has yet to rule on these violations, but during a recent hearing, he criticized Trump's attorney for the former president's statements.

Cohen's credibility is likely to be a focal point during his testimony, as he has previously been convicted of lying to Congress and other offenses. Trump has seized on these convictions to question Cohen's integrity, though Cohen's supporters argue that his lies were made in service of Trump's interests.
