Shortcomings of President Donald Trump's accountant

According to the Financial Times, the accountant tasked with auditing former President Donald Trump's social media company has encountered difficulties spelling his own name correctly. Ben F Borgers, the founder and managing partner of BF Borgers, managed to spell his name in 14 different ways in regulatory filings reviewed by the Financial Times.

While some variations, such as "Ben F Brogers" and "Ben F orgers," seemed to be simple typographical errors, others, like "Blake F Borgers" and "Ben F Vonesh," represented entirely different names altogether. Representatives for BF Borgers and Trump Media & Technology Group have not yet responded to requests for comment regarding this matter.

This issue with spelling isn't the only scrutiny Borgers has faced in his professional capacity. The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board identified multiple deficiencies in every audit received from Borgers' accounting firm over the past two years. Additionally, in November, Borgers' firm was removed from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' peer review program due to serious deficiencies in its performance.

Trump Media & Technology Group engaged BF Borgers as its auditor in January 2022 after their previous auditor, WithumSmith+Brown, resigned just months after being appointed. WithumSmith+Brown's departure was reportedly motivated by a desire to disassociate from Trump and his company.

These developments coincide with a significant decline in Trump Media's stock price since its debut in late March. The shares initially saw a surge upon going public but subsequently plummeted by nearly 40% within weeks, impacting Trump's net worth, which experienced fluctuations as a result.

Although Trump's net worth briefly increased by over $4 billion during the stock's rally, subsequent losses led to his removal from Forbes' list of the world's 500 wealthiest individuals. Despite these financial challenges, Trump's legal troubles persist, including ongoing criminal trials and civil cases, further complicating his post-presidential endeavors.
