Annual human rights report for Gaza

The annual human rights report from the US State Department has highlighted grave concerns regarding the conflict between Hamas and Israel in Gaza. The report, covering the year 2023, points to allegations of war crimes, with various human rights groups documenting extensive abuses and potential war crimes committed by Israel, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), and other militant groups.

Among the reported abuses are instances of killings, torture, abductions, and sexual violence perpetrated by Hamas, PIJ, and other groups on October 7. Additionally, there are reports of systematic torture, cruel treatment, and the forced disappearance of thousands of Palestinians from Gaza after October 7.

While the report does not offer conclusive findings, Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized that the US State Department is actively investigating these incidents. Blinken noted the complexity of gathering accurate information in real-time and underscored the importance of thorough analysis before reaching conclusions.
